Frequently asked questions. Reach out to info@float.health if we missed yours.
The first step toward onboarding is completing the contact form. We will contact you to collect information and documents (resume, license verification, certifications, etc) to ensure you qualify. Nurses that meet our requirements will advance to vetting, background checks, and the interview stage. Next, we coordinate shadow and preceptor visits with an existing Float nurse allowing you to experience how a home visit is similar (but a lot easier!) to caring for patients in the hospital.
Our onboarding process will guide you to submit the following information: name, location, license number, CPR/BLS certification, any other nursing-specific certifications, insurance, and your nursing experience. Feel free to get started with what you have on-hand now and we will work with you to collect the rest as you progress through onboarding!
Shadow visits are optional for nurses with home infusion experience and those who have experience using a curlin pump.
A shadow visit allows a new Float nurse the opportunity to experience what a home visit is like, prior to taking their first official visit. For nurses who are new to infusion, and/or going into patient homes, shadow visits are very valuable in building comfort and confidence. Many nurses end up bonding with the patient they see during their shadow visit and often become one of the patient’s primary nurses!
We send out text notifications for all visit opportunities. Each text notification includes location, medication, approximate infusion length, and payment. Other details may include access or language preferred.
Nearly all patients seen through Float are being treated with infusions for chronic conditions. Many of them have received these medications routinely for years to keep them happy and healthy. Common indications include immune problems, gout, arthritis, chronic migraines, ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s, and blood disorders. Most chronic conditions have a specialty drug available to prevent the symptoms that would otherwise impair these patients.
The pharmacy will send out a delivery to the patient that includes everything needed for the visit, including: medication, IV tubing, IV start kit, angiocath, gloves, alcohol pads, dressing change kit, etc. All you need to bring is equipment for taking vital signs!
Nurses are required to bring an internet enabled device for eCharting plus tools for assessing the patient and taking vital signs, including: stethoscope, BP cuff, thermometer, and pulse ox.
All supplies are left at the patient's home and can be discarded in the trash. Sharps can be discarded in a sharps container.
Nearly all of our pharmacies use our eChart. The eChart can be filled out on any device with wifi (laptop, phone, tablet). Once complete, you click submit to securely send the chart to Float.
During onboarding, we will send you a link to set up direct deposit.
Hourly rates are dependent on the pharmacy, medication, patient, location, and urgency of the visit. On average visits pay $70-$105/hr in California, with occasional incentivized rates. Float pays per visit, for the duration spent at the home. Duration can be dependent on the maximum hours authorized by the pharmacy and insurance. We do not reimburse for drive time or miles.
For any questions related to the supplies, pump, or scheduling status, payment or visits contact Float Health. Our team is ready to help you! If you have questions about medications, patient status, or need order clarification, during or before a visit call the pharmacy listed in the Visits Details.
Each patient is prescreened by the pharmacy before they are cleared for in-home infusions. If the pharmacy has any concerns about the patient’s home environment they will not be cleared to receive medications in home. If a nurse on a home visit becomes concerned about patient safety and/or the safety of the home environment the nurse should report this to Float and the pharmacy. In extreme cases, social work can be consulted and/or alternate site therapy can be coordinated. As in all settings, patient safety is of primary concern.
Each nurse is an independent nurse contractor (INC) with Float and our partner pharmacies require all INC’s to have their own liability insurance. Most nurses get their policies through Nurses Service Organization (NSO), which provides inexpensive coverage that can also cover you anywhere you work as a nurse.
